PAX Games 2019

Today’s blog is going to be slightly different. I’m not going to go over one product or one certain thing in particular, I’m going to go over multiple. Today I will be going over some of the different games we seen at PAX west. Obviously these are not all of the games that we checked out at the convention. But they are some of the ones that stood out to us the most. If you feel like this blog is a bit too long for you to read, you can check out the YouTube video that we made about this same exact topic here:

Monster Hunter World. Iceborn: An expansion pack for the already released Monster Hunter game. I can defiantly see how people would be really hyped for this. I personally do not play Monster Hunter, it did not appeal to me as much as I hoped it would. The game seems a little too complex for me, which is why I prefer Dauntless over MonHun. Release date: Already out!

Dauntless: This game is also a monster hunting type game. You can defiantly find similarities between the two games. However, if you have never played either one I would recommend to go with Dauntless because it is simpler to play. The graphics were really nice and i understood all the controls and inventory in about 5 minutes. In Monster Hunter it took much longer then that, so I would just go with Dauntless because of the simplicity. Already out! Cross play on PC, X-box, PS4, coming to switch!

  • FREE TO PLAY!

Call of Guardians: This is a mobile game that provides and interesting spin on a mobile game. It is sort of like Clash of Clans and Dota 2 combined (mobile version). The goal is to destroy the opponents base faster then your opponent. Pretty simple stuff. I did not find this game very balanced because it is basically a race to who can destroy the other persons base first. You do not really have to kill many things to get to the opponents base. However, if anything i did like the pacing of the game. It was very quick and for a mobile game that is what you want. If you are waiting for something and have a spare 10 minutes. A quick round of this game will do you just fine.

  • Coming out on IOS and Android, release date is not out yet.

Borderlands 3: This was definitely one of the biggest games at PAX. It had the biggest kine hands down, and it seems like a lot of old Borderlands fans were really excited for the third installment of the series. We did end up trying this game and I actually enjoyed it a lot. I was able to try 2 of the classes in the game and i gotta say that I enjoyed both. As a person who like FPS type games I had no trouble with the controls. However, i can definitely see how people might find this game difficult if they have not played these types of games before. Overall, this game was very fun and i enjoyed it very much.

Just Shapes and Beats: HANDS DOWN one of the best games at PAX! We played this game before pax and beat it. This is a bullet hell type of game. It has a lot of good songs from very popular EDM producers. I had a lot of fun with this game and I definitely recommend getting it if you have some friends that want to play a game together. The story mode is not that long but some levels are challenging. Most important thing is that its fun! Out now!

  • On steam for 20$!

Infernax: This game surprised me at how good it was. It is a side scroller 16-bit type of game. There inst many graphics to speak of because this is a very small indie game, so obviously that is not where most of the praise for this game comes from. The game is sort of like a dark fantasy adventure type game. Its a lot of fun if you are into a darker type plot. Also this game does get pretty challenging, so do not expect an easy win. The best part about this game is the fact that it has a “choose your own path element in the story mode” I am not sure if any decisions effect the overall plot,. but it will be interesting to see if this story has different paths and ends to it. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

  • Does not currently have a release date.
Dunk Lordz 2019

Dunk Lordz: a fun cartoonish, street basketball type of game. It has been at PAX for 3 years now and they still have not came out with the full version :(. I really enjoyed playing this game at PAX. The controls feel a bit wonky at first but after a couple rounds you start getting used to it. The game is fairly difficult (even though it may not seem like it). But it is still a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this game if you are into basketball, or any type of sports game. We did actually make a video where we play this game which is up on our channel! You can check it out below.

  • Coming soon (supposedly). PC and Xbox one.

Alluris: this game caught my attention because of how unique it is. It is kind of a “chose your own path” game but all you do is swipe right or left on cards indicating if you want to do a certain thing or not. There isn’t any animation or graphics or anything like that, so it is all up to your imagination. Basically its kind of a stress free adventure game and if you enjoy things like Dungeons and Dragons or other adventure style type board games this should interest you. I do not know if i am going to be getting this game however the premise seems really interesting. Not out yet!

  • Coming soon on PC and Android.

Quantum League: I feel like i say this for a lot of games but this was also one of the most interesting games at PAX. It is very hard to explain without seeing the actual game play but i am going to try my best. Basically it is a 1v1 FPS type game (kind of looks like OW) where the main goal is to capture a control point in the middle. There is three rounds and each round is 15 seconds. However the trick is that after every round it rewinds you back to span and you play against the opponents past and present self. Same goes for round 3. So lets say you went out to the middle and got killed in round 1. In round 2 if you kill the thing that killed you your past self will stay alive and continue playing. It is a very mind boggling game that requires a lot of thinking, however it is extremely fun. Its hard to understand at first but once you get it you will know how it works. I am going to be getting this game for sure because it is something very interesting and fun.

  • Coming soon to PC!

Disintegration: Disintegration is an FPS micromanaging type of game where instead of having a persons perspective you are in a mech (kind of like a hovering big robot). This provides some unique and interesting combat experience for a great time. The micromanaging aspect has been reduced to a minimum and honestly its not all that important, because the mechs themselves are pretty overpowered compared to the foot soldiers and the rest of the CPU. I had a lot of fun playing this game, we played a mode kind of like “capture the flag” but instead of bringing the flag to your own base, you are trying to push the opponent back and bring it to their base. Overall, this game was very enjoyable and I look forward to playing it some more.

  • The release date will be between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 31 2021.
  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Roller champions: Roller champions is another very fun game that caught my interest. It has the same style like “rocket league” so if you’re into that you will definitely find this game interesting. The premise of the game: There is two teams of 3 who are trying to score a ball into the portal, while on roller skates. The trick is, the team who gets the ball first has to make a lap around the map so to activate the portal and through the ball through it to get a point. You can also do 2 laps to get 3 point and 3 laps to get 5 points. Once a team reaches 5 points, they win. The defense in this game is pretty hard to master, because everyone is going pretty fast jumping off of walls, and constantly trying to dodge you. But if you get it down you are able to push/tackle the opponent into loosing the ball. If you get angry at games easy i would not recommend playing this game as blood pressure will inevitably rise and it gets pretty heated pretty fast. However if this whole explanation seems interesting to you, then i recommend checking this game out.
