Samson Satellite broadcast microphone review and unboxing

Samson Satellite USB/iOS broadcast microphone is another great contender for a mid-priced microphone that features great design, a lot of features and good performance!

What you get in the box:

DESIGN

Samson Satellite Microphone

Samson Satellite USB/iOS broadcast microphone design definitely stands out from other microphones, as it presents the premium classic look of a broadcast microphone where construction/grille is made out of aluminum/steel but offers modern plug-in-play 24-bit/96kHz audio features of a USB one. [IT LOOKS WAY BETTER IN PERSON THAN ON PICTURES]

Fold-back legs are super convenient as they save so much space. This implementation of design for stand makes it one of the better traveling microphones as you don’t have to bring a separate stand, also the size of the microphone itself is actually pretty small and conveniently shaped.

FEATURES

One of the best features of this microphone is that it has a touch mute button that is super stealthy, so if you were to mute yourself in a discord call, no one would actually hear you doing it, unlike other models that make a “mute button noise” that others could hear.

The light indicator is also very convenient, the “green light” obviously indicates that you’re “ON”. “Yellow light” indicates that you’re muted.
Red light” indicates when it’s peaking – that’s also a very cool feature that we haven’t seen on many other microphones. This little feature is very convenient, as it gives you a visual representation of when you’re too loud, so people won’t have to tell you, you can just look at the light.

3 PICK-UP PATTERNS 3 FEATURES

  • Cardioid mode which the regular mode that picks up from the front of the microphone.
  • Omnidirectional mode that picks up from everywhere around the microphone.
  • Bi-directional mode or the figure eight which picks up from the front and the back, it’s comes handy if you’re lacking additional microphones and you want to do a podcast with two people that might be a choice for you.

Next feature of Samson Satellite USB/iOS broadcast microphone is that it features a headphones jack on the side, right below the volume knob which makes it super easy to adjust the sound. The only thing that we believe could improve in this microphone is the gain volume, as this particular model doesn’t feature a knob for it, the gain volume will have to be adjusted in your computer settings.

There is a switch at the bottom of the microphone that controls the headphones, you can just turn it “ON” or “OFF” without unplugging the headphones.

USB port on the side for easy plug-in-play, as we’ve mentioned this Samson Satellite microphone comes with two cables, one regular USB cable for computer (Windows or Mac) and there’s also a USB to iOS port which actually lets you plug it in directly to the iPhone (we’ve also tested this on the iPhone, make sure to watch the video)

SOUND QUALITY

The audio of this microphone is decently clear and sharp. Samson Satellite microphone has a very good range of the “highs” and the “lows” and also, picks up the bass fairly well. We’ve actually tested the sound quality in the sound room, where we’ve performed two tests, one without the audio editing (raw sound) and an edited audio so that you could hear and compare how it sounds. The test starts at 7:48 in the video.

Satellite features two premium 16mm condenser capsules that capture vocal warmth and clarity with a smooth, accurate frequency response. An internal shockmount isolates the capsules from the body of the microphone, minimizing handling noise or sounds caused by vibrations and table rumble.

Samson Satellite Microphone structure

In conclusion: Samson Satellite USB/iOS broadcast microphone is another great mid-priced option, you’ll definitely appreciate the design and feel of the microphone, as well as the size and features. This microphone will be a great option for those looking for a small travelling mic that doesn’t take up space but provides good quality sound. (Don’t forget about that iOS adapter for easy plug-in-play to your iPhone)
